Local Songwriter Pitches New Hockey Anthem
Living in Hockeyville, Ontario is a big deal for one local songwriter. Hoping to help raise the bar for Kingsville after finishing a dramatic 2nd in the recent hockey competition, Chad Everaert hopes to claim the Hockey Night in Canada (HNIC) anthem for his hometown and will need help from his community to get the nod.
Chad has officially entered into the “Hockey Night in Canada Anthem Challenge” which is looking for entries from Canadians to compose a piece of music to replace the original HNIC theme that is played during the weekly broadcast on CBC.
The lifelong Kingsville resident sees the challenge as a great opportunity to test his abilities and his interest in the contest is based on his passion for music. “ I've always had the dream of writing music for a living, but it's a hard group to get into since there are so many songwriters out there,” he said. “When I heard about the contest I thought that being able to say "I wrote the theme for HNIC" would be a great credential for a resume and lead to the potential for more work.  Also, after all the Hockeyville efforts, I thought it would be a great honour to claim the anthem for Kingsville.”
In creating his musical anthem, "Are You Ready?", Chad began by identifying what a great anthem should be.  “It needs to be energetic, catchy and memorable,” he expressed. “I wanted to capture the ‘big anthem fanfare sound’ but mix it with a more modern pop-rock base to keep with the times.  I believe that the music needs to appeal to the entire demographic of Hockey Night In Canada from the younger viewers just tuning in all the way up to the older fans that have been watching for decades.  If you target one specific age group, you risk alienating the others.”

Not wanting to rest on his laurels, the local songwriter continues to push the envelope and test his creativity. “I'm currently finishing up another entry that will fall into the guitar rock genre and have plans to do a third song as well,” explains Chad. “I didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket so I thought it would be a good idea to give the fans some options.”
